Hi, I’m Denise Hackman, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and the owner of You in Mind Counseling, LLC. I’m glad you’re here.

Therapy With Purpose

I believe therapy is a safe, supportive space to process experiences, explore thoughts & feelings, and gain deeper insight into ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. I have always had a strong interest in people, how they experience the world, and the stories they carry.

Life can be challenging, confusing, and unexpected. At times, we all benefit from a neutral, compassionate support system to help us work through these experiences. When left unprocessed, life’s challenges can contribute to distress that affects our emotional well-being & overall quality of life.

Areas of Focus

I have experience supporting clients through a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, and relationship issues. I also hold specialized training in co-occurring treatment and am a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC).

In my work, I use an integrative approach that may include trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and emotional regulation techniques. My goal is to provide care in a genuine, respectful, and collaborative environment that supports meaningful growth & healing.

Beyond The Therapy Room

Before becoming a therapist, I served with AmeriCorps NCCC following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which deepened my appreciation for culture, community, and disaster response work. Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and my dogs. Yoga, reading, and time in nature help me stay grounded & balanced.

Education & Credentials

I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Messiah University in 2013 and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lycoming College in 2005.
